Middle Kingdom

Middle Kingdom is a photographic portrait of contemporary China, created during the four years the author lived in the country (2018-2022). Combining street photography and portraiture, the series is based on long-term observation rather than a brief visit or outsider’s glance.

Made across cities and everyday environments, the photographs explore daily life within one of the world’s most influential and rapidly changing societies.

Tradition and hypermodernity, control and spontaneity, collective rhythm and individual presence. The project looks beyond political clichés and media narratives, focusing instead on atmosphere, human presence, and the visual complexity of ordinary life.

Middle Kingdom is a personal record of living inside a society in constant motion, where identity is continuously negotiated between history, ambition, and the pressures of the present.
